As Boston College’s 26th president, Rev. John T. Butler, S.J., brings decades of experience as a teacher, administrator, and minister—most of it here at the Heights.

Fr Jack Butler

Fr. Butler, or Fr. Jack as he is known to most, was ordained in 2000 and served in a range of ministries, from prisons and hospitals to Jesuit formation, before joining BC’s Office of Campus Ministry in 2002.

Since then, Fr. Butler has become a central figure in University life. Named Haub Vice President for Mission and Ministry in 2010—and chaplain to the BC football team that same year—he has helped shape formative education, supported students across academic and personal milestones, and worked closely with colleagues and alumni to strengthen BC’s mission.

Known for his steady presence, humor, and compassion, he brings a distinctive warmth to his work with all members of the BC community.
