The Institute invites you to participate in 12 Weeks in Manresa: Spiritual Exercises for our Times, a self-guided Ignatian retreat in daily life based on the Spiritual Exercises, using a text offered through Jesuit Sources: “Finding Christ in the World: A Twelve Week Ignatian Retreat in Everyday Life,” by Joseph Tetlow, S.J., and Carol Atwell Ackels. The book is an extended adaptation for praying with the Exercises. It provides daily content for prayer and space for taking notes.
In addition to the book, which will guide your daily prayer, there are additional retreat presentations on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, led by Fr. Casey Beaumier, S.J, which can be found in the "Retreat Content" section of this website.
The Institute’s involvement in your retreat is minimal. We distribute the text and provide you weekly content.
We will use “Finding Christ in the World: A Twelve Week Ignatian Retreat in Everyday Life” for the retreat. The book is an extended adaptation for praying with the Exercises. It provides daily content over the span of twelve weeks for prayer and space for taking notes. Each Week has its own spiritual topic which an introduction unpacks, and a page called Prayer Talk, which explores some experiences in prayer and gives a few suggestions as your prayer unfolds. You will want to have a special place and a definite time to pray each day. Find a place where you can expect to be undisturbed.
We suggest 30 minutes of daily prayer as a start. Over the weeks, you will find your own measure.
We strongly encourage participants to form their own small group for faith sharing. We suggest that groups coordinate to meet weekly or biweekly, for about an hour each session in-person, via Zoom, or another web platform of your choosing. For more information on best practices, see the retreat starter kit below.
Every week, there will be additional content on the Spiritual Exercises by the Institute for the entire retreat group. Content will alternate between an excerpt from a selected Jesuit source and a presentation on the Spiritual Exercises by Fr. Casey Beaumier, S.J.
Weekly content can be accessed here.
There is no charge for the retreat. The only cost is the purchase of the retreat material. You can purchase the material on the Jesuit Sources website.
