Joe and Jesuits: Video-Café Expands Scholarly Conversation

Thursday, August 15, 2019
In an effort to further the conversation around Jesuit studies, and to connect scholars from around the world, the Institute has brewed up a unique means of sharing ideas: informal monthly discussions, which participants can attend in person or through video chat. These Jesuit Cafés—complete with coffee, for those who can make it to the Institute—allow interested parties to keep up-to-date with a variety of topics in the field. The program, which began last year, will continue in the fall.
Each Jesuit Café meeting follows a different subject for discussion. In the past semester, those themes have included “The Jesuits as Courtiers in Qing China,” “Reconstructing the Correspondence of Robert Persons, S.J.,” and “The Jesuits as the Last Medieval Order?” The latter presentation was given via video-call by Markus Friedrich from the Universität Hamburg. Other scholars have also been able to attend through the online meeting space. Participants who wish to join the video call will be able to RSVP 24 hours in advance.
The fall 2019 Jesuit Café schedule is now available.
