Boston College Law School offers three concentrations: International & Comparative Law, Real Estate and Community Development Law, and Tax Law. These concentrations are meant to provide students with a deeper understanding of these particular areas of law. To receive a degree in a specific concentration, a student must complete the upper-level concentration requirements and file the appropriate concentration form with the Office of Student and Academic Services. Each concentration requires a minimum of 17 credits in the subject area chosen from a menu of course options, with the exception of the International and Comparative Law concentration, which requires 16 credits. The concentration in International & Comparative Law aims to prepare students to work with international and comparative legal materials while representing a diverse range of clients including states, international organizations, NGOs, businesses and individuals; to undertake further international and comparative work in research, policy and academia; and to nurture a global outlook from which to engage as legal professionals and citizens with some of the defining issues and legal structures of our times. Participating in the International & Comparative concentration offers students a number of benefits, including (1) the ability to signal to employers and others the depth of your international and comparative law knowledge developed during law school; (2) invitations to meet with international and comparative visitors in small-group settings in connection with a range of public events during the year; (3) completion of a major written project in international or comparative law in an upper-level seminar or independent study in close consultation with a member of the faculty; (4) specific advising and discussion of international and international-adjacent career planning; and (5) the opportunity to work with other students sharing your interests.

The Real Estate and Community Development Law Concentration aims to prepare students for successful real estate transactional careers in many types of practice environments and enables students to use their legal skills to benefit disadvantaged communities with property-related challenges. It also reveals and highlights how real estate law is central to the community development field, requiring community development practitioners to know a great deal about real estate law and practice. Participating in the Real Estate and Community Development Law Concentration allows students to explore a diverse range of courses that are relevant in preparing for a transactional real estate law practice, covering local zoning, development permitting, choice of entity, environmental compliance, commercial lending, government policy, and title work. Participating in the Real Estate and Community Development Law Concentration offers a number of benefits to students including: (1) the ability to signal to employers and others the depth of your real estate and community development knowledge developed during law school; (2) receipt of invitations to join real estate, land use, and community development events during the year; (3) completion of the Upper Level Writing requirement through a course listed on the concentration planning form on a Housing or Community Development topic; note that some courses require advisor approval to verify the topic satisfies concentration requirements; (4) specific advising and discussion of real estate and community development career planning; and (5) opportunity to work with other students sharing your interests!

The Tax Concentration is designed for students with a specific interest in tax law as well as for students interested in a variety of business law fields where tax is typically important in the clients' decision making. Participating in the Tax Concentration offers a number of benefits to students including: (1) the ability to signal to employers and others the depth of your tax knowledge developed during law school; (2) receipt of invitations to join tax workshops and other events during the year; (3) enrollment in the Tax Concentration Seminar in Fall of the 3L year, which is intended to serve as a capstone course; (4) specific advising and discussion of tax and tax adjacent career planning; and (5) opportunity to work with other students sharing your interests!
