About the Working Group
We at CDIL are embarking on an ambitious project to reimagine how Canvas sites are best designed to help BC faculty teach more effectively and enhance the student learning experience.
We have heard from many faculty that they are using their Canvas materials developed for the pandemic response as part of their current face-to-face teaching, with significant positive impacts on their teaching practice. As a result, we want to make these Canvas template designs available to any BC faculty who are interested in using them.
Faculty Learning Community
To help us update the designs and make them relevant for face-to-face teaching, we invite you to take part in a Faculty Learning Community (FLC). A Learning Community is an engaged group of faculty, working together to develop and share out their learnings with regard to teaching and learning.
To facilitate as wide engagement as possible we are inviting faculty to take part in this FLC at different levels of engagement–from simply receiving a newsletter update each semester, voting on potential updates and designs of interest, to frequent workshop meetings where new designs are developed and shared.
The questions that will guide the work of this Faculty Learning Community are:
- How can a Canvas design template scaffold effective teaching practices while also providing flexibility for individual faculty?
- How can Canvas site design incorporate digital teaching and learning tools that streamline teaching workload while improving student learning outcomes?
- How have faculty adapted their pandemic-response courses to be used in their face-to-face courses, and how best can these be shared out?
- How has the more purposeful use of Canvas sites affected the design of courses more generally?
