Learning Designer (Consultant/Contract)

The Center for Digital Innovation in Learning (CDIL) at Boston College is seeking a full-time contract Learning Designer to join our dedicated staff to assist BC instructors with the design and development of asynchronous accelerated online undergraduate courses in a variety of disciplines.

The Learning Designer supports the mission of the Center for Digital Innovation in Learning by providing expert guidance to faculty on the design of digital learning experiences and environments, including online and hybrid courses. The Learning Designer provides consultation on pedagogical methodology for digital learning, digitally-enabled assessment and engagement strategies, effective practices in learning design, content development and curation in the Canvas Learning Management System and other instructional technologies to enhance online and digital teaching and learning. Through analysis, consultation, training, design planning, and course development, the Learning Designer supports faculty in designing effective online and digital courses that are learner-centered, engaging, and meaningful.

In support of the the BC Undergraduate Summer Session, this contract position will work with groups of faculty, in partnership with the CDIL team of project managers and instructional media producers, supporting instructors in the hands-on design and development of 6-week asynchronous online courses. 

This hourly contract position can be hybrid (offices at our Brighton MA campus) or fully-remote, and is eligble for up to 35 hours per week. This contract position is initially available through the end July, with a possibilty of further extension beyond July 31, 2024.

Qualifications: 

  • Earned bachelor's degree in Instructional Design or related field, master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 2 to 3 years experience supporting online and/or hybrid course design in an educational setting, preferably in higher education.
  • Experience using and supporting the use of learning management systems and other online teaching technologies, Canvas experience preferred.
