Kathleen Flinton joined the faculty of the Boston College School of Social Work in July 2020 as an assistant professor of clinical practice. She comes from the Boston University School of Social Work, where she served as a lecturer and the director of the Post-graduate Certificate in the Treatment of Trauma.

Flinton has worked with survivors of trauma for more than 20 years. Her expertise lies in cross cultural trauma treatment with a specialization in working with refugees and asylum seekers. In addition to teaching, Flinton maintains a private practice in which she provides therapy to survivors of torture and trafficking, clinical supervision, and consultation. 

Flinton previously served as the associate clinical director at the Boston Center for Refugee Health and Human Rights at Boston Medical Center. She has postgraduate training in EMDR, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and maternal mental health; has been named a national expert in the treatment of torture by the Tulane University Traumatology Institute; and is a qualified expert witness in federal immigration court.

She holds a BA from Vassar College, an MSW from Simmons School of Social Work, and an MAR from Yale Divinity School.
