Here’s what students need to know about field education at BCSSW
Field education bridges the gap between practice and coursework, giving students real-world experience with organizations that complement their career goals.
We pride ourselves on the range and quality of agencies we team with to provide our students with an outstanding education in social work. We’re also continuously seeking opportunities to pair our talented students with employers’ needs, and we welcome new partners to join the more than 1,000 agencies with which we have relationships. Students emerge prepared to address today’s most pressing social problems—98% of our graduates enjoy employment within a year after graduation.
MSW students at Boston College School of Social Work focus in clinical or macro practice and specialize in a concentration that combines two years of field work, skills-based advanced policy, and practice courses in these specific areas: Children, Youth, and Families; Global Practice; Health; Mental Health; and Older Adults and Families.
BCSSW also offers three dual degrees (MSW/MBA, MSW/JD, and MSW/MA in Theology and Ministry) and nine certificate options (Child Welfare; Latino Leadership; Management; Neuroscience and Social Work; Policy and Community Organizing; Refugees and Immigrants; School Social Work; Trauma; and Veterans and Military Families).
The Career Services Office is interested in partnering with employers to address your recruiting needs. Some of the ways we can work together include recruitment fairs, job listings, and employer visits. Please email Career Services or call 617-552-4035 to discuss how we can develop an ongoing plan to meet your organization's hiring needs.
Looking for bilingual, culturally aware job candidates? To better prepare students to work with this diverse population, Boston College School of Social Work established a Latinx Leadership Initiative (LLI) program within the MSW program. The LLI bolsters students' linguistic and cultural competencies to work with Latino communities in the U.S. and abroad. A set of foundation and method courses are taught in Spanish.
The School of Social Work and Lynch School Counseling Program have combined efforts to better serve employers looking to connect with a diverse and talented group of students and alumni committed to social service careers. Through the Social Services Recruitment Fair, employers can engage with students and alumni from our MSW and MA in Mental Health Counseling programs. For more information about registering, please contact Career Services.
Reach current students and more than 8,000 alumni of the School of Social Work by emailing your job postings to BCSSW Career Services.
