Laura De Veau, (she/her/hers) is a visiting assistant professor in the Education Leadership and Higher Education department of the Lynch School of Education and Human Development. Dr. De Veau brings over 30 years of experience within the Student Affairs Administration profession to the classroom. With extensive expertise in the functional areas of Residence Life, Student Conduct, Student Engagement & Leadership, Intercollegiate Athletics, and the like, Dr. De Veau’s campus experience includes this broad range of institutions: Boston University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), Babson College, Endicott College and Mount Ida College, where she served as Vice President for Student Affairs. Dr. De Veau held the VPSA post from 2013-2018, when Mount Ida Closed.
The closure of Mount Ida and the current landscape of Higher Education specifically related to the health of small colleges drive Dr. De Veau’s current writing and commentary on her weekly Substack newsletter, "What's Up in the Academy?" and her podcasts "The Fac/Staff Lounge" and "Office Hours with Dr. De Veau". In 2024 she published, "The Maplewood College Compendium: A Resource for Student Affairs Leaders", the case study text is based on her decades of experience.
Dr. De Veau is the Principal & Founder of Fortify Associates, LLC a boutique consulting firm that assists clients in the Higher Education and Not For Profit industries. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Boston Gay Men's Chorus. She lives in Newton, MA with her family and their aging pets.
