Excellent news for the Boston College School of Social Work’s International Doctoral Program in Social Welfare this month, as the school announced the renewal of its partnership with Santander Universities, a division of Santander Bank, N.A.
Under the agreement announced on July 8, Santander will continue its support of the University’s international doctoral program in social welfare. (To learn more about the signing ceremony itself, check out this article in the Boston College Chronicle, and view photos in our Facebook album).
The International Doctoral Program in Social Welfare is a unique collaboration between Boston College and select Jesuit universities in Latin America that aims to cultivate scholars to further the development of social welfare in their home countries. Currently, BC has agreements with two universities in Mexico for this program: Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City and Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Occidente (ITESO) in Guadalajara, as well as with Universidad Alberto Hurtado in Santiago, Chile.
In the first year of the program, students remain in their home countries for course work at their respective universities, while also taking classes at BC through an online learning management system. In the second academic year, the students are in residence at BC. Later, they continue to alternate between locations until they complete their dissertation.
The program’s first two students, both from Mexican universities, attended BC during the past academic year, and a second cohort is slated to arrive on campus in the fall. A third has been admitted to the program.
