Scenario based scale development; student ratings of instruction; longitudinal social network change
From the beginning of his Lynch School tenure in 1983 through his current position as Chair of the Measurement, Evaluation, Statistics & Assessment Department, Larry Ludlow has rigorously and internationally advanced how we assess learning and improve teaching. In the process, he has helped advance measurement methodology across numerous disciplines.
His major areas of research include Rasch model applications, longitudinal course evaluations, quantitative procedures for complexity theory, and longitudinal changes in social network structures.
For his work on “Measuring Engagement in Later Life Activities: Rasch-based scenario scales for work, caregiving, informal helping, and volunteering,” Ludlow received the Association for Assessment and Research in Counseling/Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development Patricia B. Elmore Award for Outstanding Research in Measurement and Evaluation. He is also a Fellow with the American Educational Research Association.
Under his leadership, students are challenged to combine theory and practice to bring valuable new knowledge to research areas such as psychometrics, nursing, social work, physical rehabilitation, counseling, ane educational administration. He earned his doctorate from the University of Chicago.
