Quantum Information

Quantum information science seeks to understand and utilize quantum mechanics for applications in information processing, communication, and metrology. Quantum phenomena, such as superposition and entanglement, appear for well-isolated, atomic-like systems ("qubits") and have the potential to overcome classical limits for many technologies. In particular, by tuning the interactions between the qubits, these quantum simulators can provide insights into the fundamental properties of quantum matter and are the precursors of a general quantum computer. Areas of active research in our department include quantum sensing, quantum information dynamics, teleportation, quantum error correction, and topological quantum computing.
