Cynthia N. Perry is an independent scholar, lecturer, nonprofit leader, and consultant, as well as the founding executive director of the Black Sports Ministry Network, Inc. Her work sits at the intersection of religion and society, with particular interests in sports, ethics, racial justice, and community engagement. She has worked with several nonprofit organizations in the Boston area, including Episcopal City Mission, Bikes Not Bombs, and Mosaic Interfaith Youth Action. Most recently, she led a year-long reparations initiative with community leaders, activists, and grassroots organizers that resulted in the distribution of nearly $3 million in reparative funds.
Prior to her work in ministry and the nonprofit sector, Perry worked in sports medicine as an athletic trainer and served as a sports marketing intern with the U.S. Naval Academy. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Hofstra University, a master’s degree in sports management from The George Washington University, and completed her theological studies at Boston University. Her current scholarship includes the development of “A Womanist Sports Ethic of Care,” which centers the experiences and well-being of Black women athletes. She teaches Diversity and Inclusion in Sports at Boston College.
