Biography

Eleanor (Ellie) Carey is a senior from New Orleans, Louisiana, majoring in Russian and International Studies. She is concentrating in Conflict and Cooperation, and is interested in the geopolitics of post-Soviet states (specifically, in Central Asia and the Caucasus), conflict resolution and diplomacy, and environmental/climate politics. She studied abroad before her sophomore year in Almaty, Kazakhstan, as a part of the Advanced Russian Language and Area Studies Program. She also studied abroad in Glasgow, Scotland, in the fall of 2024. At BC, Eleanor was involved in the Arrupe Immersion Program, where she completed her trip to Quito, Ecuador. She is also involved in the Ascend Program, now serving as a Student Lead for the second year. Ellie has always been an enthusiastic participant in BC’s Appalachian Volunteers (APPA) program, and will now serve on APPA Council this year. In 2024, Eleanor was privileged to work for the United States Department of State, serving under the Department of European and Eurasian Affairs’ Caucasus Desk. This past summer, Ellie served as an Orientation Leader for Boston College. In the future, she is interested in pursuing an education and career focused on intelligence analysis and Slavic language acquisition. Eleanor is a big fan of cats, iced chai lattes, and Lego sets.
