A foundational tenet of Ignatian spirituality is the magis or "more," as defined in Latin. At the Roche Center, we practice the magis by partnering with Catholic centers, institutes, schools and initiatives across Boston College and beyond, in order to advance the formative mission of the University. These partnerships also expand the breadth and diversity of formation opportunities available to Catholic school educators. As St. Paul explains in 1 Corinthians, we are many parts with distinct ministries, yet we remain one body baptized in and by the one Spirit. (1 Cor. 12:12-27) Together, we are missioned to bring Christ to the world. The initiatives below were developed through the collaborate efforts of energies of our partnering organizations, and they exist to bring about the greater glory of God.
In partnership with C21, the Roche Center has developed Faith Feeds guides around five gifts, or virtues, that challenge Catholic school educators to reflect on how they are living their vocation by being adaptable, joyful, attentive, visionary and humble. Each guide includes three articles, reflection questions and conversation starters.
The Roche Center, C21 and IAJS are collaborating to offer a virtual pilgrimage in the steps of St. Ignatius, who sought to find God in all things. From his years as a young page in Arevalo, Spain, to his final days as Superior General of the Society of Jesus in Rome, Italy, virtual pilgrims have the opportunity to read from Ignatius’ own writings and glean insights from selected Jesuit sources and programs on Ignatian spirituality — all while being embraced in a community of prayer.
In 2006, Boston College and Saint Columbkille Partnership School first formed an alliance to create a flagship Catholic school in Boston. The partnership was deepened in early 2018 when Saint Columbkille was formally designated as a laboratory school for Boston College’s Lynch School of Education and Human Development (LSEHD). The laboratory school designation—the only such arrangement between a university and an elementary school in the city of Boston—enhances opportunities for teacher training, educational research, and professional development. Roche Center staff support this partnership through serving on the LSEHD laboratory committee and the school board, and by offering mentorship and professional development to St. Columbkille faculty.
