Biography

Mariana Ferreira is a senior whose IS major concentration is in Ethics and Social Justice. She grew up in Connecticut. She speaks Spanish fluently and has always been very interested in Latin American culture and politics, especially because her parents are immigrants from Colombia and Venezuela. Within International Studies, Mariana is particularly passionate about the following topics: migration, refugees, human rights, international law and topics relating to the amorphous concept of justice (environmental, racial, transitional). At BC, Mariana partook in the Pulse service program her freshman year, worked as a Spanish tutor through the GoPeer platform, and studied abroad in Geneva, Switzerland. During her time abroad, she studied International Law and French, and interned with the Permanent Mission of Honduras to the United Nations. In her sophomore summer, Mariana received a grant from the Winston Center for Ethics and Leadership for her work with the Harvard Law School Immigration and Refugee Clinic, where she worked on legal casework for asylum-seekers. Most recently, she interned at a venture-capital philanthropy organization, New Profit. Right now, Mariana is working on her senior thesis project which focuses on the regional response to the Venezuelan migration crisis.
