Dr. Sandro Radicella's Passing

To our great sorrow, we have learned that Dr. Sandro Radicella recently passed away.  Dr. Radicella was a world-renowned expert on ionospheric science, spending much of his career at the ICTP in Italy and serving as the head of the Telecommunications/ICT for Development Laboratory from 1990 to 2020. He received the ICTP Spirit of Abdus Salam Award in 2019 and was awarded Honorary PhDs from the University of Bucharest (Romania, 2001), Obafemi Awolowo University (Nigeria, 2005), and National University of Tucumán (Argentina, 2018). After his retirement from ICTP in 2021, he joined BC’s ISR as a Visiting Research Scholar, continuing his investigations and always keeping up with the most current trends and developments. Most recently, he published a review on the impact of big data and AI on ionospheric research in the 21st century. His insights and always cheerful presence will be missed.
