Former STM faculty member James Conn, S.J., was honored in October 2020 with the annual Role of Law Award of the Canon Law Society of America. Only two other Jesuits have received this honor over the years: Ladislaw Orsy, S.J., and the late James Risk, S.J.   Conn has been welcomed back to Pontifical Gregorian University as professor emeritus, and is in his 50th year teaching Latin.  

Mary E. Grenchus, M.T.S. ’13, is the founder of The Grenchus Foundation, which seeks to integrate art and faith. The foundation has a number of programs focused on the arts, ministry, health and wellness, family, and women’s spirituality. It also offers grants and scholarships to aspiring artists and to women interested in leadership positions in the Church.  

In October 2020, Fr. Leonard Kayondo, M.A./M.A. 10, a priest from Rwanda, was awarded the 2020 Peacebuilder Award from the Center for African Peace & Conflict Resolution (CAPCR) at California State University, Sacramento. 

The letter of commendation read, in part: “The award is in recognition of your exemplary leadership and outstanding contributions in truly rebuilding communities and the youth after the genocidal violence in Rwanda. Your leadership in creating sports via the United Stars soccer team for youth positive development, rural basic education, and pastoral services demonstrates commitment to peacebuilding and is deserving of recognition.”

Joseph G. Marina, S.J., MDiv. ’12, Th.M. ’12, was recently named the 28th president of the University of Scranton. He currently serves as the provost and vice president for academic affairs at LeMoyne College. He will begin his new role in Scranton this summer.

Magalie Rowe, M.A. ’17, was recently honored as a member of the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women’s 2020 class of Commonwealth Heroines for her work as executive director and founder of the Latina Center MARIA in Lynn, Mass. She also received the Excellence in Literacy Leadership Award from the “Celebrate Literacy Day”organization and the Leadership and Cultural Contribution Award from the International Book Fair, Lawrence, Mass., in the past year.
