In my mind, though, nothing is more expressive of TML than this brutalist building in which we stand. Mirroring TML’s own gritty history as a startup, this rough, stark, potentially alienating place with its many imperfections gradually wins hearts through the stunning geometry of its design and the powerful counterbalance of its windows which magnanimously invite the outside in, softening the sharper contours of the concrete. This suggests to me a place of inclusion; a place that understands limitations and flaws; a place of embrace; a place within which the beloved community gathers to work, study, socialize, play, and reflect.

O'Neill Library

The Thomas P. O'Neill, Jr. Library
The main research library, the O'Neill Library, is located in the center of the main campus, adjoining the O'Neill Plaza. O'Neill Library holds 1.4 million volumes of the Boston College Libraries research collections in a broad range of subjects reflecting the University's extensive curriculum. These include general reference materials, indexes, the circulating collections, media, government documents, and other research materials housed on the five floors of O'Neill Library and at three remote collection sites.

Gargan Hall

The John J. Burns Library
The Burns Library is home to more than 150,000 volumes, some 15,000,000 manuscripts and important collections of architectural records, maps, art works, newspapers, photographs, films, prints, artifacts and ephemera. These materials are housed in the climate-controlled, secure environment of Burns either because of their rarity or because of their importance as part of a special collection. While treated with special care, these resources are available for use to all qualified students, faculty and researchers. Visitors are always welcome, and the library features an attractive and ambitious exhibits program.
