The information contained in this section applies to STM students receiving the following degrees: S.T.D., S.T.L., Th.M., M.A., M.Div., and M.T.S. Ph.D. Candidates should contact the dean's office of the Morissey College of Arts and Sciences.
Important Dates & Commencement Schedule:
Only individuals who have completed all degree requirements by May 10, 2019 will be allowed to participate in the Commencement Exercises.
Students and families are welcome to gather in the lobby of Simboli Hall at 7:30 a.m. for coffee and pastries. We will all walk over together to line up by 8:15 a.m.
University Commencement Exercises (main ceremony)
There is open seating, no limit to the number of guests, and no tickets necessary. This is held outdoors in Alumni Stadium. Rain or shine.
Graduates should check-in inside Cadigan immediately following the main ceremony. STM faculty and graduates will begin assembling for the diploma ceremony no later than 12:30 p.m.
School of Theology and Ministry Diploma Distribution Ceremony
Individual STM diplomas will be distributed at a ceremony held on the lawn in front of Cadigan Alumni Center, 2121 Commonwealth Avenue on the Brighton campus. This is located on the Commonwealth Avenue side, just inside the main entrance. The diploma ceremony lasts approximately one hour. Graduates should check-in inside Cadigan immediately following the main ceremony. STM faculty and graduates will begin assembling for the diplomna ceremony procession no later than 12:30 p.m.
Your guests may sit in any unreserved seats. A professional photgrapher will take individual shots of each graduate that will be available for purchase. Light refreshments will be available after the ceremony.
Graduates must wear academic attire in order to participate in both the main ceremony and the diploma ceremony. Members of religious orders should also wear academic attire for the main ceremony, however, they may wear their habits in place of academic attire for the diploma ceremony.
In March each student eligible to graduate will receive access to an electronic invitation which may be personalized and sent to family members and friends.
There is no limit to the number of invitations each student may send.
Please note that these are invitations and are not used as tickets and are not required for admission to any Commencement ceremony or activity.
All graduates are required to complete an online survey from the Association of Theological Schools. A link to the survey will be emailed to you.
Graduates must enter their names in Agora as they want them to appear on their diplomas and in the graduation program. It is very important for members of religious orders to fill in the suffix field with the initials of their orders.
