Core Courses

Many Art department courses satisfy the University's Core requirement for the Arts, and several fulfill the Cultural Diversity requirement. The University’s Core Courses web page lists Core courses offered each semester, and these courses are also identified as "Core" in the University's Course Information and Schedule.

BC's Core requirements and Art, Art History, and Film courses taken at other U.S. institutions

Art History, Film Studies and Studio Art courses taken at other institutions will not be considered for fulfillment of BC's Core requirements. To inquire about Core-eligibility of Art History courses taken at other U.S. institutions, contact Professor Stephanie Leone (Devlin 422, 617-552-6459).

BC's Core requirements and Art, Art History, and Film courses taken abroad

A few Boston College Study Abroad Art and Film courses are pre-approved to satisfy various University Core requirements. Check with the Office of International Programs to determine if a specific course will fulfill a Core requirement.

BC's Core requirements and summer Art, Art History, and Film courses taken through the Woods College of Advancing Studies

Summer courses taken through the Woods College are eligible to fulfill University Core requirements if their academic-year equivalents do so. Core-eligible courses for Fall and Spring semesters are listed on the University’s Core Courses web page, and these courses are also identified as "Core" in the University's Course Information and Schedule.
