Ashley Longacre

Assistant Professor of the Practice

Profile

Ashley (Holmes) Longacre, Ph.D., M.P.H., is an assistant professor of the practice at the Connell School of Nursing and an epidemiologist. Much of her training focused on statistical and epidemiologic methods, including the measurement, analysis, and interpretation of dietary and cancer data. Her dissertation research suggested that inflammation may be an underlying mechanism through which diet may act to modulate the development of colorectal neoplasms. Dr. Holmes also worked with collaborators in Denmark to publish the first population-based descriptive data on colorectal cancer recurrence risk, which could be used to guide the type and extent of adjuvant therapy and follow-up plans in certain patient groups.

Most recently, she served as an epidemiologist within the Bureau of Substance Addiction Services for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) and JSI Research and Training Institute. At MDPH, she developed several data collection tools for substance addiction programs serving schools, at-risk youth, individuals receiving medications for opioid use disorder, and individuals in recovery. Dr. Holmes received her Ph.D. from Emory University, M.P.H. from George Washington University, and BA from Duke University.
