Greetings from I-90 where we (Sarah and Madeline, two returning Master of Divinity students) are making our way back to Boston! We both spent the summer break in our beloved home state of Minnesota. Sarah completed her first unit of Clinical Pastoral Education in a hospital setting and is returning for her third and final year at the CSTM. Madeline is returning for her second year after working on a regenerative ministry farm growing fruit and hosting ecological faith formation events.
Along our road trip, we’re preparing for the 2026-2027 school year because we will be working together as the student leaders of the CSTM Student Forum. As leaders, we facilitate meetings where student organizations and all community members gather to support one another and organize community events. We also serve as a bridge between the student body and other groups, such as the CSTM administration and the broader BC community.
Here at the CSTM, we have a vibrant student life including many student organizations and favorite traditions.
Sarah: One student group that I’ve been involved in is the Prison Ministry Initiative (PMI), where I have been serving as co-leader for one year. PMI is involved in ministry at two medium-security prisons, hosts prayer services, and provides opportunities to learn about and discuss solidarity and accompaniment within the criminal justice system. My favorite part of Prison Ministry is learning from the folks we visit, and growing in faith due to their testimony.
Madeline: During my first year at the CSTM, I was struck by how hospitable all of the student organizations were. They host events which are open to the whole community, so it is easy to be involved in many different activities. Some of my favorite memories include attending the Mass of Welcome (Gaudete, the CSTM’s LGBTQ+ student organization), celebrating Women’s History Month (Women’s Group), and displaying my artwork in the Night of the Arts gallery (Theology Arts Collective). Through these opportunities I enjoyed getting to meet lots of new people and try new things.
We hope that this year, Student Forum meetings and events will be welcoming and engaging gatherings that enrich your life here at the CSTM.
As we near Boston in our overpacked car full of Trader Joe’s snacks, we are looking forward to another great year. Returning friends and new, we’ll say a prayer for your safe travels and a smooth transition into the fall semester. And, we’ll see you soon for a Welcome (Back) BBQ on Sep. 1 and our first Student Forum meeting on Sep. 3!
