Biography
Tommie Worrall is a second-year M.A. student whose research explores Mexico’s period of liberal state-building from 1867 to 1910. His work places particular emphasis on the country’s nascent criminal justice system during the thirty-four year dictatorship under Porfirio Díaz, examining how new ways of classifying and prosecuting criminals reflected broader trends of the liberal nation-state consolidating power and legitimacy at the expense of marginalized groups, particularly indigenous women.
Tommie graduated Summa Cum Laude from Salem State University with a B.A. in History and Spanish. His undergraduate research largely focused on the role of the Chilean New Song Movement in championing social change during the campaign and presidency of the socialist Salvador Allende.
