June 19, 2026, marks the 161st anniversary of Juneteenth — the day Union Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce that all enslaved people were free. Although the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued more than three years prior to that historic day in 1865, this moment signaled a profound step toward justice and remains a definitive turning point in the American story. Over the last century and a half, Juneteenth has evolved into a powerful day of reflection and celebration. 2026 Juneteenth Resources
