Evan Haney is a second year M.A. student. His research examines the securitization of Irish cultural expression — language, music, and public performance — tracing the colonial logics through which the British state has framed cultural difference as politically dangerous, from medieval language legislation through the Troubles to the contemporary reception of Belfast hip-hop group Kneecap.
Before graduate study, Evan completed his B.A. in History, summa cum laude, at the University of Maryland Global Campus, where his undergraduate thesis examined the historical influences and motivations of Northern Irish paramilitary guerrilla warfare during the Troubles. He has presented his work at Comhfhios Boston College and the Boston University Graduate Student Political History Conference.
Evan serves as a Sergeant First Class in the United States Army, where he has held instructor roles across Europe, the Republic of Korea, and the United States.
