Applying

The department receives about 170 applications to the doctoral program every year, and about 50 applications for the Masters program. Applicants to the doctoral program who are not admitted may be considered for admission to the Master’s program if they wish to.

As part of an application, the department requires:

  1. official transcripts of all higher education studies,
  2. GRE scores,
  3. TOEFL scores for international students,
  4. three letters of recommendation,
  5. a personal statement of interest,
  6. a writing sample.

The admission committee does not favor or disfavor those with a master’s over a bachelor’s degree. An undergraduate philosophy major is not required, but some philosophy coursework and recommendations from philosophy faculty are considered important.
