Profile

My entire career has been spent in both high tech and in education.  I taught for three years in the Computer Science Department in Boston College’s Carroll School of Management, followed by a few decades in the Woods College.  As an administrator at a Massachusetts community college, I oversaw seven academic departments and 16 academic programs, with 39 full-time and over 100 adjunct faculty.

I began my career as a software engineer with Digital Equipment Corporation, working on a team of eight developers, building a real-time transaction-processing operating system.  The last 15 years of my time in industry involved constant travel, almost exclusively internationally, developing and nurturing partnerships primarily with academic and research institutions, and with federal governments, to configure large computing platforms for computationally complex applications.  This subsequently led to  a new venture focused on the emerging technology of spatial applications.

And working for the Massachusetts Department of Higher Ed, through the Innovation Institute of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, I led collaborative, strategic initiatives in partnership with the state’s technology industry to address critical gaps in student readiness for pursuing baccalaureate STEM degrees.
