Paulist Biblical Commentary

Paulist Biblical Commentary

Project Summary

With contributions written by more than 70 Catholic scholars and colleagues, this single volume provides an up-to-date commentary that is both scholarly and useful to ordained and lay ministers in their teaching, preaching, and personal lives.

Audience

Catholic priests, sisters, and lay people and also, of course, Christians of other churches.

Central Questions

What do the texts say about Christian life? How do they ground what we may call Christian spirituality?

Why conduct this research?

The previous one-volume Catholic commentary on the Bible had become dated, about twenty-five years old, and did not address many modern issues.

This commentary offers interpretations of entire biblical books and individual passages as well as historical issues, liturgical and theological interpretation. It offers the best of biblical scholarship while keeping a focus on the pastoral and spiritual dimesions of the texts.
