Ben is a student in the Systematics area (minor: History of Christianity) primarily interested in exploring the methodology of the “neo-patristic synthesis” first articulated by Fr. Georges Florovsky, and its ongoing application and adaptation within contemporary Eastern Orthodox theology. Closely related interests include the mutual development of Orthodox “neo-patristic” and Roman Catholic “nouvelle” theology, the relevance of a “return to the sources” to current challenges facing the ecumenical movement, and the unique achievement of Metropolitan John Zizioulas in applying neo-patristic theology to questions of ecclesiology, eschatology, and ecology.

Originally from Michigan, Ben worked for several years in sustainable agriculture and development prior to embarking upon his theological education. He writes in multiple capacities for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and enjoys gardening, tracing the history of ideas, and teaching Sunday School.
