Sarvada Chipkar

Postdoctoral Fellow

Biography

Sarvada Chipkar is a postdoctoral researcher working in biofuels and bioproducts at Boston College with Professor Emma Brace. She received her PhD in Chemical Engineering from Michigan Technological University. In the Brace Lab, she works closely with Prof. Brace and undergraduate research fellows on advancing bio-processing techniques and exploring innovative methods to recover high-value chemicals from biomass. This includes investigating and optimizing biomass chemical recovery methods using laboratory techniques; using process design, techno-economic analysis (TEA), and life cycle assessment (LCA) methodologies assess the feasibility of scaling up laboratory bio-processing techniques into a valuable bio-refinery; design of experiments and project leadership.

Before joining BC and the Brace Lab, Dr. Chipkar was a postdoctoral researcher at Michigan Tech in the Shonnard Lab, investigating the potential lubricating applications of hydrocarbon waxes and oils derived from the pyrolysis of waste military plastics, specifically polyethylene, polypropylene, and polystyrene funded by Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Her work involved a combination of experimental analysis and process optimization to upcycle waste plastic into high-value proprietary lubricants. Her doctoral work at Michigan Tech in the Ong Lab, funded by the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center (GLBRC), focused on studying the effect of drought on switchgrass and identifying associated microbial inhibitors. Prior to that, she earned a B.E. in Chemical Engineering University of Mumbai, India.
