Scott's teaching, research, and professional interests center on contemporary American theatre, new play development and devised work, dramaturgy, and theatre criticism. At BC, he teaches courses in dramatic literature and playwriting and directs Mainstage productions on a regular basis. These productions have included several evenings of original plays by BC student playwrights under the title "New Voices," as well as an original devised work titled Ashley’s Purpose, Marie Irene Fornes’s Abingdon Square, the world premiere of Charles Mee’s A Summer Evening in Des Moines, and plays by Shakespeare, Marivaux, and Beckett.
Prior to joining the Boston College faculty in 1994, Scott held teaching positions at Carnegie Mellon University, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, the University of Michigan, and the University of Pittsburgh.
Scott was Chair of the Boston College Theatre Department from 2010 to 2014.
