Part 1 of 3 - Crime scene

Larry Dover called the police to find his 27-year-old ex-wife, Linda Dover, when she was nowhere to be found after spending the afternoon in his home. They initially find the bedroom in a mess: sheets and pillows are pulled off the bed, dresser drawers are half open, clothing has been thrown around, and there are blood stains on the carpet. After searching the house further, they find Linda’s body wrapped in a bedroom comforter, with only her head exposed, in an outside crawl space underneath the house. As they unwrap the comforter, they see that her clothes are disheveled and her jeans are around her knees. There is blunt force trauma to the head and face and multiple stab wounds which appear to the officers to have been made after the bra was pushed up.

Part 2 of 3 - Background and stressors

Linda Dover was not a particularly high-risk victim. She and her ex-husband were on cordial terms, and she was regularly at his house with their son. She was also not involved in any other relationships but had become close with several co-workers after her divorce. The only stressors would have been the holiday season, whatever led to the dissolution of her marriage, and a recent string of break-ins in the neighborhood.

Part 3 of 3 - Possible suspects

The police believed the weapon to be a knife from an open kitchen drawer, but they were unable to ever locate it. The crime scene indicates that she had been assaulted initially in the bedroom, then her body was moved outside and into a crawl space. Blood drops on her thighs show that the killer had handled and positioned her. There are 3 possible suspects. Who committed the crime?

  • A young man who has been causing some trouble in the neighborhood
  • Linda’s ex-husband, Larry
  • A disgruntled co-worker
