Professor Mary Ellen Carter studies the effects of financial reporting and regulation on incentives and executive compensation. Her recent research includes investigations of the effect of stock-option repricing on employee turnover, the role of accounting and tax rules in shaping executive compensation, and the influence of consultants on CEO pay.
Before joining the faculty at Boston College, Professor Carter was an Assistant Professor at the Columbia Business School of Columbia University and at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. She is a CPA and, prior to her academic career, worked for Coopers and Lybrand in Boston as a senior audit associate.
