Dean’s Message

Dean's Message

Welcome to the Carroll School of Management at Boston College! Here, we do what any other top-ranked business school does—prepare students to become experts in their chosen field, ready for practice on graduation day. But there’s a great deal more to a Boston College education.

We teach students to think deeply, broadly, creatively, analytically—to seek out new ideas every day and to become lifelong learners. We also produce leaders who are engaged with urgent social and ethical challenges in contemporary business and society.

All of that is in our DNA, as part of a university grounded in the centuries-old tradition of Jesuit Catholic liberal arts education. That’s the Boston College difference.

At the Carroll School, we are emphatically committed to both the highest level teaching and equally high-level research by our globally recognized faculty. A number of schools do one or the other quite brilliantly. By virtue of our tradition and our mission, we are passionately dedicated to both. Honestly, I don’t know of any business school in the world that brings together both of those qualities as clearly and distinctly as we do.

That’s why our faculty is front and center. Carroll School professors lead both undergraduate and graduate students on their adventure of deep learning and personal development. They bring their passions for their fields of study and their rigorous methodologies into the classroom.

And our top-notch students respond in kind. They learn from the way our faculty members frame problems, put forward hypotheses, and offer evidence rather than mere supposition—critical lessons for future leaders. They draw connections between their fields of growing expertise and the wider world. Our students don’t just become technically proficient in their chosen careers (which they all do). They learn how to make a difference, wherever they go.

I invite you to learn more about our distinctive approach to management education at the Carroll School. Most of all, I invite you to learn how we—in the words of our University’s motto—can help you “Ever to Excel.”
