There are many ways to get involved with Mass at Boston College. The Chapel Choirs & BC Bells of the Liturgy Arts Group serve the Boston College community by sharing gifts of music. Our student liturgies are enhanced by the talents and gifts of many people. We invite all students to participate and hope you will find a home here with us.
Liturgy at Boston College
Liturgy at Boston College is an experience of true community. Our Masses are opportunities to come together as one and recognize the God that is with us and within us. The liturgies are enhanced by the talents and gifts of many people—including the students who welcome us, who lead us in song, and who join us in prayer.

Chapel Choirs & BC Bells (Liturgy Arts Group)
As subsets of the Liturgy Arts Group (LAG), our Chapel Choirs and BC Bells serve the Boston College community by sharing the gift of music at Sunday liturgies and special events on campus. With song and instruments, our Chapel Choirs and BC Bells are committed to enlivening and enriching the University’s worship experience. No auditions are required.
If you are a singer and/or orchestral instrumentalist (winds & strings), consider joining Trinity Chapel Choir, St. Joseph Chapel Choir, or St. Ignatius Chapel Choir. If you play handbells or want to learn how to ring, join BC Bells. Contact Blake Bruchhaus, Campus Minister for Music, for more information.

After participating in the Liturgy Arts Group (LAG), students will be able to:
- 1. Participate as a fully functioning member of a church music ministry, both during their college years and beyond, on several levels: vocal or instrumental, cantor or psalmist.
- 2. Develop leadership skills as members of the Executive Board, Retreat Planning Committee, or Liturgy Planning Committee. These skills transfer to lifelong participation and or leadership in parish, diocesan, national, or international music ministry upon graduation.
- 3. Because LAG is an “ensemble”, their four pillars of Faith/Spirituality, Service, Community, and Social Justice inform their holistic approach to their formation, i.e., cura personalis and becoming men and women for others. The empirical evidence can be found in the vocations that many of them have chosen as professions. Very often they are dedicated to “Faith, Service, Community” or some combination of all four.
Liturgical Ministries
Weekly student liturgies at Boston College are celebrated in chapels and worship spaces in each of the three residential areas of campus: Trinity Chapel on Newton Campus, St. Joe’s Chapel on upper campus, and St. Ignatius Church and the Heights Room on the lower campus.
Weekly student liturgies at Boston College are celebrated on all residential areas of campus: Trinity Chapel on Newton Campus, St. Joseph Chapel on Upper campus, St. Ignatius Church on Lower campus and the Chapel at Ashby Center on the Brookline Campus.
Our student liturgies are enhanced by the talents and gifts of many people, and we encourage you to share your gifts with our worshipping communities in any of the following ways listed below.
- Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion: Are faithful members of the Catholic Church who assist in the distribution of Holy Communion. Serving in this role, you are offering the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity to every person who receives Communion.
- Lector: Are any faithful Christian who has responded to God’s call to proclaim the Word to their community. Lectors facilitate an encounter with the love and faithfulness of our Lord through Sacred Scripture.
- Sacristan: Is any faithful Christian who has responded to God's call to assist their community by caring for the sacristy as well as the vessels, preparing the chapel for Mass, and serving/assisting the presider during Mass.
- Greeters / Ministers of Hospitality: Help to create a welcoming environment at Mass. They extend a welcome as students arrive, distribute worship aids, coordinate the collection and set up post Mass Socials.
How to get involved
Students interested in serving as ministers at BC (with the exception of music ministers, see above) should complete the Liturgical Ministries application. You will then be contacted with more information about the process. Training is required to participate in some ministries. You can also speak to any Campus Minister after Mass for further information.
