The Liturgy Arts Group serves the Boston College community by sharing its gift of music and our student liturgies are enhanced by the talents and gifts of many people. Liturgy at Boston College is an experience of true community. Our Masses are opportunities to come together as one and recognize the God that is with us and within us. The liturgies are enhanced by the talents and gifts of many people—including the students who welcome us and who join us in prayer.

Liturgical Ministries
Weekly student liturgies at Boston College are celebrated across four residential areas: Ashby Chapel on the Brookline Campus, Trinity Chapel on the Newton Campus, St. Joseph Chapel on Upper Campus, and St. Ignatius Church on Lower Campus.
In each chapel, student liturgical ministers enrich our shared worship as they generously share their gifts in service of the Church. Students who feel called to proclaim Scripture, promote hospitality, assist at the altar, or distribute Holy Communion are encouraged to volunteer as liturgical ministers.
Our student liturgies are enhanced by the talents and gifts of many people, and we encourage you to share your gifts with our worshipping communities in any of the following ways listed below
- Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion: Faithful Catholics who assist in the distribution of Holy Communion during Mass. Through this ministry, Extraordinary Ministers help ensure that the Body and Blood of Christ are reverently shared with the assembly.
- Lector: Students who proclaim the Word of God during the liturgy. Through thoughtful preparation and prayerful proclamation, lectors help the community encounter God in Sacred Scripture.
- Sacristans & Altar Servers: Students who prepare the worship space for Mass by arranging the sacred vessels, liturgical books, and other necessities before and during the celebration. Sacristans & Servers assist the presider and help ensure that each liturgy unfolds with care and reverence.
- Greeters & Ministers of Hospitality: Students who create a welcoming environment for all who are gathered. With a spirit of friendliness and inclusion, greeters welcome members into the community, distribute worship aids, and help host post-Mass community gatherings.
How to get involved
Students interested in serving as liturgical ministers at BC (with the exception of music ministers, please visit the Music Ministry page) are encouraged to complete the Liturgical Ministry Interest Form. After receiving training and participating in minister formation, student ministers will be assigned to a chapel community and added to the liturgy schedule.
