Director of Boston College Symphony Orchestra and Assistant Professor of the Practice

Description

A full-time, non-tenure-track position. The successful candidate will direct the Boston College Symphony Orchestra; oversee, manage and coordinate the Chamber Music Program, including organizing and coaching instrumental ensembles; and supervise a program of individual lessons and its part-time faculty. The successful candidate will mentor students with an interest in performance, will develop strategies for the growth of performance opportunities and will teach two undergraduate courses in theory and/or music history for credit each year. Candidates may propose other areas of teaching specialization. Duties include student advising and oversight of independent studies.

Qualifications

Applicants should hold a doctoral degree in music and be able to demonstrate an outstanding record as an orchestral conductor with notable experience in chamber music or solo performance. Candidates with at least 5 years' experience at the college level preferred.

Application Instructions

Applicants should submit a letter of application referencing engagement with issues of diversity and inclusion, a curriculum vitae, a teaching dossier including syllabi of courses taught and, where available, evaluation data.  In addition, we request programs from three recently conducted concerts, links to videos of a recent performance and a rehearsal recorded from the performers' point of view, unedited and complete. Three letters of recommendation should be uploaded by the referees directly to Interfolio. Applications must be received by November 1, 2022. Do not send any additional materials until requested.


Director of Choral & Vocal Performance and Assistant Professor of the Practice

A full-time, non-tenure track position. The successful candidate will direct the University Chorale of Boston College (150-member chorus) and the Chamber Singers (12-18 members); oversee, manage and coordinate other department vocal ensembles; and supervise a program of individual vocal lessons and its part-time faculty. The successful candidate will mentor students with an interest in performance, will develop strategies for the growth of performance opportunities and will teach two undergraduate courses in theory and/or music history for credit each year. Candidates may propose other areas of teaching specialization. Duties include student advising and oversight of independent studies.
