Statistical Analysis
Robert Smith is a professor of the practice in the Business Analytics Department at the Boston College Carroll School of Management. He joins the department after 13 years as a marketing professor at Suffolk University. At Suffolk, he primarily taught analytics and machine learning while also developing courses in marketing analytics, machine learning, marketing automation, and biostatistics. His teaching emphasizes learning by doing and helping students develop the confidence to use data and computational tools to solve real-world problems.
Smith received Suffolk’s three major teaching honors: the student-selected SGA Outstanding Faculty Award, the Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence, and the University Innovative Teaching Award.
His research examines how people make decisions and interact with markets, organizations, and technology, and his work spans consumer psychology, data quality, crowdfunding and entrepreneurial marketing, digital marketing, sport marketing, and analytics education. Smith's research has appeared in journals including the Journal of Business Research, Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice, Journal of Marketing Education, Current Psychology, and Journal of Experimental Psychology.
Smith grew up in the New Orleans area and earned his Ph.D. from Florida State University. He spends his free time chasing his kids, reading, and embarrassing himself at the gym.
