Keith A. Francis AHANA Experience

Your BC experience starts now!

Congratulations on your admission to the Boston College Class of 2025! We are excited to welcome you to our virtual Keith A. Francis AHANA Weekend (KAF). Traditionally a three-day, two-night program, KAF was reimagined for 2021 into a weekend of virtual programming for admitted scholars of AHANA (African, Hispanic, Asian, and Native American) descent to provide an introduction to academic and extracurricular life at Boston College. This year's event took place on April 10th and 11th.

Feel free to explore this page to learn more about AHANA student perspectives, the agenda for this year's KAF, and the legacy of Mr. Francis. To register for any KAF events, please visit your Applicant Status Portal.

I am a big believer that God's plan is the best plan. After coming to Keith A. Francis AHANA Weekend, I immediately made the decision to commit to Boston College. I really enjoyed BC's hospitality and support in holding this weekend. My host was extremely committed to showing me all of BC, which I appreciated because it was an honest view of life at Boston College. I highly recommend that all admitted AHANA students take advantage of any opportunities to learn more about this school that I now call home after four years of transformation.

We Are More Than Just an Acronym

The term “AHANA” (short for African, Hispanic, Asian, and Native American descent) was coined by two Boston College students in 1979 to replace the “Office of Minority Programs.” The students objected to the word “minority,” which they defined as “less than,” and proposed instead to use the term “AHANA,” which they felt celebrated the cultural differences present in our society.  from BC’s Thea Bowman AHANA & Intercultural Center
