Credit for Performance

Orchastra musicians in concert

To receive credit for individual lessons in voice or instruments, please register for MUSP1925 or MUSP1985 (one-hour lessons for credit) through the Music Department website before add/drop period ends. See the Private Lessons page below for information on fees, registration, and regulations.

A semester of for-credit vocal or instrumental lessons involves 11 lessons and three additional hours of master classes or performance. At the end of each semester of instruction, students must perform prepared scales and a prepared piece or pieces before a jury to receive credit. These recitals are graded pass/fail.

Students may apply three credits worth of private lessons toward the 120 credits needed to graduate. If you wish to continue taking lessons after three for-credit, you should register for MUSP1920 or MUSP1980 (one-hour lessons, non-credit).
