Amy LaCombe

Professor of the Practice


As Professor of the Practice, Amy LaCombe has been involved with the Carroll School for more than two decades in a variety of teaching and administrative roles.

She is currently one of the original three faculty still teaching Portico since its roll-out for the entire first-year class in 2009. In addition, she is the assistant department chair for the Portico program, where she collaborates with the undergraduate curriculum committee, is the representative to the Assurance of Learning Committee, and works with the Winston Center for Leadership and Ethics on curricular offerings and student programming.

Professor LaCombe previously served as Associate Dean for Undergraduate Curriculum and Assistant Dean for Advising in the Carroll School’s Undergraduate Program, where she advised sophomores and juniors. She has previously taught first-year courses like “The Courage To Know” and “Introduction to Ethics," and was also a full-time lecturer in the Accounting Department for five years, teaching courses in financial accounting, managerial accounting, accounting information systems, and assurance services in the M.S.A. program.

Professor LaCombe's dissertation research focused on whether first generation student status is a predictor of factors such as graduation rate, grade point average, and choice of study.

Professor LaCombe is currently the faculty advisor to the Best Buddies chapter at Boston College and has also served as the faculty advisor to AHANA Management Academy and advised students throughout her more than two decades at Boston College.
