2025 Advent Reflections

The Church in the 21st Century Center is excited to share weekly reflections on Sundays during Advent from members of the Boston College community.

The First Sunday of Advent

The First Sunday's reflection is offered by Fr. Casey Beaumier, S.J., Haub Vice President for University Mission and Ministry & Director of Campus Ministry.

The Second Sunday of Advent

The Second Sunday's reflection is offered by Molly Wysocki. She reminds us of the importance of "trusting in hope." Molly is a senior in the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences majoring in Economics and Theology. On campus, she serves as the Vice President of the Liturgy Arts Group and actively participates in the Arrupe International Encounters program and the University Chorale. She also works as a student employee at The Church in the 21st Century Center.

The Third Sunday of Advent

The Third Sunday of Advent is also called Gaudete Sunday. Named from the Latin word "gaudete” meaning "rejoice,” it marks a moment of joy and hope during the period of preparation for Christmas, signifying the nearness of Christ's coming.

In his reflection on today’s Scripture readings, Finn Regan ‘26, reflects on the joy that we can bring to others. Inspired by today’s Gospel, Finn encourages us to remember Jesus’ call to help strengthen and walk with those who are in need. This Advent, let’s pray for our ability to seek, create, receive, and treasure joy in our lives.

The Fourth Sunday of Advent

In her reflection for the Fourth Sunday of Advent and the upcoming Christmas season, Lindsay Meier ‘26 shares how we might connect with Joseph’s story of unexpected goodness and love both now and throughout the year. This last week of Advent and nearing Christmas season, how might we discover love and goodness all around us, especially in those places we least expect?

A Reflection on Hope

In her reflection on the Advent season, Katherine Shea '26 shares that Advent offers an invitation for hope and reflection. She expresses how this time of year helps her to “notice the little things.” How might this Advent season be a time for us to slow down, notice signs of God’s hope around us, and share that hope in the world?
