New Rec Center to be named in honor of Connell family
The facility will be named in recognition of a $50 million 'Light the World' campaign gift from BC Trustee Associate Margot C. Connell.
Three projects to enhance intercollegiate, intramural and club sports at Boston College—a recreational center, an athletics field house, and athletics playing fields—are currently underway. The initiatives, an investment of approximately $200 million, result from a multi-year assessment and planning effort regarding BC Athletics, as well as focused fundraising with alumni and friends of Boston College.

Construction of the 244,000 square-foot, four-story facility, which will replace the Flynn Recreation Complex, is underway at the former site of Edmond’s Hall on Thomas More Road. It will include a fitness center, jogging track, natatorium with lap and instructional pools, basketball courts, tennis courts, multi-activity courts, and multi-purpose rooms for spin, yoga and fitness classes, among other amenities. The center is made possible by a lead gift from Trustee Margot Connell and her family.

Construction of the 115,000 square-foot athletics field house is underway. The indoor facility, located adjacent to Alumni Stadium, would provide much-needed space for varsity football and other field sports, as well as campus recreation, club sports, and intramurals. It includes a full-size synthetic turf field, a strength and conditioning center, and support space for the Athletics Department.

They will be a great asset in recruiting student-athletes across all sports and in helping to prepare them for their respective seasons. It is an exciting time for BC Athletics.”
