How to Recycle

Boston College uses single stream recycling, which means you can throw all your recyclables in one bin, theres no need to sort it. However, make sure to rinse recyclable containers before recycling them. Some items are unsalvagable after they've come into contact with food, like a pizza box soaked with oil.

Use the guide below to make a huge difference in reducing the trash that ends up in landfills.

TIP: Still unsure if your item is recyclable? Check the bottom for a recycle sign. Also, a good hack is that if you can rip it, you can most likely recycle it.

Other objects that can be recycled:

  • Aluminum Foil
  • brown paper bags
  • paper packaging
  • milk and juice cartons
  • food boxes
These CANNOT be recycled:
  • ice cream containers (unless hard plastic)
  • styrofoam
  • soiled paper or food containers
  • corks
  • boxes with a wax coating
