Josh Seim is broadly interested in the sociologies of work, medicine, welfare, punishment, and more. He also frequently writes about pedagogy and ethnographic methods.
His research has appeared in American Sociological Review, Social Problems, Sociological Methods and Research, Social Science and Medicine, Punishment and Society, Journal of Contemporary Ethnography, Teaching Sociology, and other outlets.
He is the author of The Welfare Assembly Line: Public Servants in the Suffering City, (University of California Press, 2026) and Bandage, Sort, and Hustle: Ambulance Crews on the Front Lines of Urban Suffering (University of California Press, 2020).
