The Boston College Journalism Program was delighted to host the final two events in our Climate Is Every Story series this spring semester.
Sponsored by a major grant from The Institute for Liberal Arts, the Journalism and Environmental Studies programs collaborated with the Schiller Institute for Integrated Science and Society on the year-long series that's brought award-winning journalists to campus to discuss how to incorporate the climate crisis into their coverage areas.
The third event, "Forced Migration and Changing Communities," on Feb. 11, was moderated by Ted Hesson (‘02), immigration reporter for Reuters. It featured Meera Subramanian, a freelance environmental journalist, and Professors María Piñeros-Leaño and Maryanne Loughry of the School of Social Work as panelists.
It was followed by "The Business of Climate," on April 8. That discussion was moderated by Anissa Gardizy, a technology reporter at The Information, and also included Josh Dorfman, a co-founder and host of Supercool; Michael Copley, a reporter on NPR's Climate Desk; Gergana Nenkov, Professor of Marketing at the Carroll School of Management; and Edson Severnini, Associate Professor of Economics and Core Faculty of the Schiller Institute for Integrated Science and Society at Boston College.
Both events included a full day of programming for faculty and students. The visiting journalists met with faculty after the panel to discuss their work, and then met with students to offer tips on starting out in the industry.
