In Germany in the twenty-first century, liberal democracy enjoys widespread support. But according to former federal constitutional judge Peter-Michael Huber, growing polarization among the German people may imperil the very rule of law upon which the country’s political order depends. At a time when polarization is on the rise in Western Europe and the wider democratic world, the implications of Professor Huber’s analysis are significant.
