Student Profile: Stephanie Frey
Basic info
My name is Stephanie Frey I was born in Seattle, WA and have lived there all my life. I am a senior, graduating in 2018 with a degree in Computer Science B.S.
What attracted you to BC? Ditto, Computer Science?
I was attracted to BC because I knew I wanted to live on the East Coast at some point in my life and college seemed like a great time to do that. I fell in love with the campus and it had every little thing I wanted in a college. I was attracted to Computer Science because I took a course in high school and really fell in love with the problem solving aspect of it. I ended up doing really well in the class and have been doing it ever since!
Did you have a special interest inside of CS? (e.g., database, data mining, compilers, programming, etc.)
I don't have a specific area that I am really involved in, I love programming in general. I am currently taking a computer security course though and I really enjoy it!
What's the most interesting/funny thing you've experienced here at BC?
Choosing one moment is really hard. I have met the most amazing people at Boston College and they have become my best friends in the entire world. I don't know what I would do without them. Every experience we have is always topping the last. One that sticks out to me is Stokes Set last year. We had so much fun listening and dancing.
What extracurricular activities are you involved in?
Here at BC I am involved in the Project Sunshine club, the Dance Marathon club, as well as playing lots of intramural sports. I also work in the Computer Science department and used to be a TA for the CS 2 class.
What's been your favorite class so far? (CS or otherwise)
My favorite CS so far would have to be either Object Oriented Design or Computer Security which I am currently taking. Both are extremely relevant in real-world programming which I think makes it even more interesting. Both classes also had really great teachers!
What improvements could the CS department implement to make your experience here more enjoyable?
I think our CS department here at CS is really amazing, but the biggest problem we face is growth. Just like many other schools across the country, Computer Science departments are working really hard to keep up with the demand. Our department is doing this as well which will really benefit the program in the future.
What message would you like to convey to your fellow students? (or to the faculty?)
Our department is growing every year. It has been such a fun experience to watch it grow while participating in it throughout the years. Every teacher is extremely supportive and I am so thankful to this department for giving me all the skills I need to graduate with a job at the end of my time here!
