Heather Craig Olins is an Assistant Professor of the Practice in the Biology Department, and affiliated faculty in the Environmental Studies Program at Boston College.

We live on a microbial planet, and the roles that microbes play in everything from global biogeochemical cycles to human health are only just beginning to be understood. I am interested in how the inorganic world influences microbial community composition, structure and function; and simultaneously, what impact does chemosynthetic microbial activity have on the surrounding environment and other microbial communities?

I am equally interested in the most effective ways to communicate scientific information and prepare the next generation of scientifically literate citizens.
